Crimson Moon Wiki: Story, Combat, Missions & Release Guide
Crimson Moon casts you as a Nephilim of the Order of the Crimson Moon, sent to reclaim the fallen gothic city of Gildenarch from demons, the restless undead, vampires, and the spreading corruption known as Hellgrowth — a campaign that builds toward boss fights against beings the game calls "Dead Gods." Blood-soaked, souls-like melee combat, an evolving Celestial Transformation fuelled by Angel Power, and optional two-player online co-op arrive September 1, 2026 on PC via Steam and on PlayStation 5.
An action-adventure RPG built on souls-like combat and angelic power
Developed and published by ProbablyMonsters — the independent Seattle-area studio founded in 2016 by former Bungie President and CEO Harold Ryan — Crimson Moon is classified on Steam as Action, Adventure and RPG, and tagged Souls-like, Roguelike, Hack and Slash, Dark Fantasy, PvE, Gothic and Medieval. The developer's own feature copy describes blood-soaked, visceral melee combat, while hands-on coverage from a closed-door GDC 2026 demo characterizes the moment-to-moment loop as a dodge/roll/parry/counter system layered with an evolving Celestial Transformation fuelled by a resource called Angel Power. A February 2026 announcement additionally frames the fight as a district-by-district reclamation of Gildenarch from the "Infernal Legion," and the game's own pitch — a "Gothic High Renaissance action-adventure RPG" — is visible in the ornate cathedral architecture and gargoyle-flanked halls across every screenshot released so far.
Runs are built around replayable, high-risk missions carrying modifiers and skill achievements — hands-on coverage puts individual missions at 15 to 45 minutes, with dynamic layouts and an evolving mission board rather than a fixed level list. Between missions you return to The Church, named the "Sanctus Clypeus" in an official trailer, to plan at the War Table and pick up upgrades using two base loadout options that expand as you collect armor sets and weapons. Co-op is entirely optional: preview coverage describes the solo experience as a complete, intentional mode on its own, while two-player online co-op adds mid-battle revival and inter-player synergies, with full DualShock and DualSense controller support confirmed on both platforms.
First-party confirmation covers PC via Steam (Windows only) and PlayStation 5, both with an online co-op cap of two players; independent press — a businesswire wire release syndicated by RPGamer, RPG Site, Gematsu, GamesBeat and VGChartz — additionally reports Xbox Series X|S and Epic Games Store versions launching the same day, not yet confirmed on a first-party storefront. Age-rating bodies in Brazil, Germany and Indonesia all rate the game 18+ for extreme violence, and the PC minimum spec calls for a GTX 1070-class GPU and 16GB of RAM.
